Helping Party Guests Avoid a DUI

September 26, 2017

The end of the year is coming soon and with it the plethora of holiday parties. From Halloween to Thanksgiving to Christmas to New Year’s Eve, many people will be celebrating these events with beer, wine, and cocktails. It’s no secret there is a high correlation between the holidays and incidences of drunk driving and drunk-driving related accidents. If you’re hosting a party soon, here are a few tips to keep your guests safe.

Coordinate Rides

Whether you have people carpool with a designated driver or have all your guests download and use ridesharing apps, you can ensure your guests arrive and depart without most of them having to drive at all. Not only will this save your neighborhood some parking space, but it also guarantees all your guests will arrive home safely without getting behind the wheel of a car after a few beers.

If some of them don’t want to spring for a taxi, consider inviting your guests to stay overnight. Have them bring sleeping bags, games, and so on so you can make this a fun event for everyone.

Have Plenty of Food

While food doesn’t quite sober you up as water and time can, it can help your body process the alcohol a little faster.

Offer Alternative Drinks

Rather than having pure alcohol to drink at your party, make sure there are some tasty, non-alcoholic alternatives people who aren’t inclined to drink can have. Water infused with fruit, soda, juices, and tea can provide people with something to drink without forcing them to imbibe any alcohol.
