Methamphetamine or crystal meth is a popular street drug in Florida. Being a psychotropic and psychoactive drug, meth gives the user a high but at the same time has serious adverse side effects, including anxiety, cardiac arrhythmia, aggressive tendencies, hallucinations, and strokes.
The Florida legislature has implemented strict laws to punish meth possessors and users. It is a first degree felony to sell, purchase, manufacture, deliver or bring into Florida 14 grams or more of meth. If the quantity is more than 14 grams but less than 28 grams, the offense is punishable by a minimum mandatory 3 years imprisonment and a $50,000 fine. If the quantity is more than 28 grams but less than 200 grams, there is a minimum mandatory 7-year imprisonment and a $100,000 fine. Lastly, if the quantity is more than 200 grams there is a minimum mandatory 15-years prison sentence and a $250,000 fine. Federal laws and penalties can be even stricter.
